NCSorry for the delayed post but I came down with strep throat yesterday and was buried under the blankets…Although it may be yesterday’s news, I still have something to say about the 2013 Oscar fashions we saw on the red carpet.
Needless to say my list of best dressed oscar attendees is short – I was highly disappointed by the star’s fashion choices that walked down the red carpet this year. Here are my best dressed picks from the evening:
1. Amanda Seyfried
The Les Miserable star wore an Alexander McQueen gown featuring a high neckline and keyhole cutout. Seyfried rocked this dress from head to toe – her windswept updo, makeup add to the dresses etherial look. The McQueen gown really showed off the stars svelte figure, hugging her in all the right places. I especially love the pastel color and texture featured on the dress.
2. Jennifer Lawrence (Best Actress Winner)
The Silver Linings Playbook Best Actress winner wore a gorgeous gown by Dior Haute Couture. The dress featured a fit and flare style that showed off Lawrence’s gorgeous figure. I absolutely adored the layered train and the texture of the material kept the gown from venturing into the bridal realm.
Lawrence’s up-do hairstyle and fresh faced makeup are amazing compliments to this style. I loved the draped back necklace – it was a fresh style idea and the perfect way to accessorize without distracting from the gown.
3. Naomi Watts
Naomi Watts looked sleek and sophisticated in a custom Giorio Armani gown designed specifically for the actress. Watts pulled her hair back and accessorized with drop earrings and a silver bracelet. The minimal jewelry and unfussy hairstyle kept everyone’s attention on the gorgeous, glitzy gown.
The one shoulder/cut out design accentuated the actresses toned arms and shoulders – the form fitting gown definitely gets an A+ style award.
4. Jessica Chastain
Nominated for Best Actress for her role in Zero Dark-Thirty, the rising Hollywood star kept her retro, “Jessica Rabbit” style in tact as she walked down the red carpet.
The beaded Armani Prive dress featured a sweetheart neckline, form fitting silhouette, and a minimal train. The salmon color and lovely beaded detail added an “old hollywood” feel. To complete the look, Chastain wore her signature red lip and deep side part with cascading waves.
5. Jane Fonda
Kudos to Jane Fonda for wearing a bright, vibrant gown to the 2013 Oscars. The dress is right on trend with the color pallet featured during the 2013 Spring fashion shows.
The Versace gown featured a deep V neckline, long sleeves and a cinched waste. The beading featured at the waste accentuated the 75-year-old’s rockin body.
Nude peep toe shoes, a gold metallic clutch and gold dangly earring completed Fonda’s Oscar worthy look.
And now for the worst dressed list…
6. Zoe Saldana
Normally I worship anything this style icon wears, but Zoe Saldana’s overstyled look was a complete miss this Oscar season. I love the idea of the dress, which features ombre layers of grey, but the Alexis Mabille gown is completely overstyled.
The belt and bow are really distracting. The couture dress also features a floral strapless neckline – between the three design elements, the overall look is way too busy.
Saldana’s bridesmaid peep toe shoes and bland hairstyle really drag the look down as well. Better luck next time Zoe.
7. Reese Witherspoon
The material of this dress…ick. The Louis Vuitton number Witherspoon chose for the Oscars featured a silhouette that over-accentuated the new mom’s hips. The bust line, which features a black bow over the left boob makes Witherspoon’s chest look saggy and the train looks like a crinkled nightmare.
The only positive pieces of this look include Witherspoon’s lustrous looking blonde locks and the color of the gown.
8. Sally Field
Who knew Valentino knew how to design a dowdy dress. Although it could just be the lady wearing it, I really dislike the overall look and design of the dress. From the sheer long sleeves that look like a mother of the bride cover up to the ruffles featured at the bottom third of the dress – it’s just not an Oscar worthy gown.
Fields boxy clutch seems forced and Fields messy bangs only adds to the bad fashion flop.
9. Kristen Stewart
I commend Stewart for braving the red carpet with her crutches in tow after cutting the ball of her foot – they helped distract viewers from the On the Road actresses frumpy look.
The Reem Acra dress is ok overall, but way too frilly for the tomboy Stewart. She looks really uncomfortable in the gown and the fit of the gown doesn’t give the actress’ boyish figure any curves.
I also hate the chain necklace she choose and the fact that her hair looks like she just rolled out of bed. This look is a total bust.
10. Anne Hathaway
Of all the gowns you could wear, especially as a Best Supporting Actress winner, Anne Hathaway’s Oscar choice was the worst look to walk the 2013 red carpet.
The neckline looks like a bad bridesmaid dress and the choker necklace doesn’t help the overall styling of the gown at all. I don’t understand the seam on the dress that goes around Hathaway’s hips.
I also can’t tell if it’s the darts of the dress alone that are so distracting or if Hathaway opted to skip a bra, and nipple covers for that matter. Either way, this design feature had viewers completely distracted as Hathaway walked the red carpet and during her Best Supporting Actress speech. Thank goodness she changed her dress for the Oscar after party.
I had a really hard time coming up with a best dressed list for the 2013 Oscars. I was really disappointed that some of my favorite stars didn’t even attend the biggest awards ceremony this year, including Emma Stone and her beau Andrew Garfield as well as Ryan Gosling. Seeing Jennifer Anniston at this years Oscars made me wonder if she and ex Brad Pitt switch off who attends the ceremony so they don’t have to endure an awkward encounter…
I’m curious to know how you felt about the 2013 Oscar Fashions? Did you love ’em or hate ’em?
