This past week I had the privilege to attend two awesome fashion and beauty events in Chicago!
Tuesday May 14: Ulta Beauty Store Opening on Halstead
Ulta Beauty stores opened another location on Tuesday at 16 S. Halstead . At the event, I met some amazing people, including winner of the hit reality show, “The Face” and Ulta’s new ambassador model Devyn Abdullah. I asked Devon if she had any advice for aspiring models to which she responded, “Make yourself stand out from the crowd and don’t succumb to what the industry wants you to be. You have to make yourself what you want.” Well said Devon!
During the event there were several happenings going on.
I stopped over at the NYX Cosmetics booth and talked with their beauty representative Denese Barrera. The skin-care guru helped me pick out the perfect matte concealer, foundation and powder to help keep shine at bay this summer. Denese also applied a gorgeous red hot lipstick to match my OPI nail color, “Cajun Shrimp.”
Finally, I took part in Glossed and Founds beauty booth to talk fashion, trends and makeup! Meeting Graham Kostic, G&F’s Creative and Editorial Director was definitely the highlight of my night! I can’t wait to see the beauty booth secrets revealed on their site.
Thursday, May 16 Nordstrom’s YOUphoria Fashion Face-off
I was so excited to meet three of Chicago’s hottest fashion bloggers at the Nordstrom’s YOUphoria event on Michigan Avenue store. Liz Schneider, from Sequins and Stripes, Sierra Widmer-Rodriguez of Style on the Line and, Jena Gambaccini Chi City Fashion founder were in a YOUphoria fashion face-off. Each of the girls got to work with a stylist to create a head-to-toe look from Nordstrom’s.
The meet and greet event was open to the public and included highlights including a nail bar, hair bar, lipstick bar and face bar where visitors could get styled to the nines. Each of the bloggers had their own section in the store where they picked out must-have accessories and created a mini boutique for shoppers to get a similar style.
I got to speak with each of the bloggers, all of whom were very kind and willing to give out advice to aspiring fashion bloggers. Here’s what they each had to say when I asked them what their advice is for those looking to get into the fashion blogging industry:
– Sequins and Stripes blogger Liz said, “Seek out opportunities with prospective partners, don’t wait for them to find you. I think that it looks better when you show you’re a go-getter rather than waiting around for them to come to you.” (Liz was the winner of the Fashion fave-off YOUphoria challenge, btw! Congrats Liz!)
– Chi City Fashion blogger Jena told me she will be “teaching a class for beginning and intermediate bloggers sometime this summer,” which I am definitely going to attend.
– Style on the Line blogger Sierra had a down-to-earth response, which was to simply “stay true to who you are and your personal style – readers respond to those who are genuine and don’t try to hard.”
