Never Judge a Book by its Cover or a Dress on the Hanger

Hey, it’s ok – we’ve all been guilty of buying a new book based on the cover art or a dress by the way it looks on the hanger. After working in retail for two and a half years, I have to say that the most important part of shopping is to actually try the garment on! Too often I would be assisting a client who would simply look at one of my dress suggestions and pass on it right away because it looked frumpy or weird on the hanger. Well, here is living proof as to why you should follow my shopping rule!

Exhibit A: This black and white print dress from BCBG Max Azria on the hanger. First of all, the dress looks super tiny because the stretchy, jersey fabric is just hanging lose and secondly, because the silhouette is meant to hug your curves.

Exhibit B: Now take a look at how this gorgeous dress looks when you have it on! It’s a total transformation from the frumpy looking dress on the hanger to a bombshell, curve hugging number. Like I said, living proof ladies.

To complement the dress, I paired my “Gabrielle” peep toe heels with the black and white dress and used a liquid liner pencil to create the perfect winged eye. Minimal styling is all you need when you’re wearing a classic b&w ensemble.

Even though fashion editors are putting particular emphasis on this timeless color combination as a Spring/Summer 2013 trend, the reality is, black and white will never go out of style!

P.S. Here is a closer look at the gorgeous pair of shoes! Don’t you love the simple, elegant color block look? I bought them last year and because Shoe Dazzle only produces so many pairs of each shoe, I can now say they are vintage because they are no longer available for purchase.
